PPC or Pay Per Click is a bit of a mine field. It is definitely a potential trap for new marketers. But if you understand the mechanics then you can use PPC as a profitable method for driving traffic to your site.

It is often said that you need to use several paid for and free methods of attracting the search engines, and that you should master at least one of these methods.

Obviously ezines are of particular importance, but many marketers are advised to use PPC. The problem is when you are told, as part of an internet course, that you need to use PPC, you tend to go to google and read the instructions, and often start off confused.

Here are a few things you need to do.

1. Do read the Google AdWords pages carefully. Its not just DVD manuals that need to be understood. This may be more relevant for the meal readers, as we are more prone to launching into a project without reading the instructions. Its true isn't it!

2. Write several ads. You are not limited to just one ad. You need to know which one is going to get you the best result.

3. Write several headlines. Again you won't know which one works until the market tells you.

4. Decide on your budget. The great thing about PPC is that you can decide how much you want to spend, you are in control of the budget. You nominate the limit you will spend in a given time frame.

5. Don't use Google, you can get a cheaper PPC rate from other search engines, such as yahoo.

6. Consider using image ads. These can have a bigger impact.

7. Give something free away in your ad. Don't try to sell directly from your ad. If you are using affiliate products they will be taken to the affiliate sales page. Choose affiliates which have an enticing sales page.

8. Make sure that your free offer is given in return for their details, remember you want their name and email not just a sale. This way when you make a sale you can make more offers to them. Building your list is critical to your long term success.

9. Select the all regions choice, unless you are promoting a local service. This has been shown to get the best results.

10. Don't rush this process. A week or two in your business won't make any difference, but it may just save or make you a lot of money.

Pay Per Click isn't essential in order to build a successful online business, buy it will definitely speed up your results. If you are looking to replace your income quickly you will need to use PPC, but if you are happy to develop a business over time at very low cost then articles and social media will do most of the work for you.
