Google AdWords Tips - Avoid Broad Matching

Time:2010-01-17 23:20:21  Source:Ezinearticles  Author:Jason Nyback

One of the most commonly used Google AdWords matching techniques is the broad matching. While this seems as if it is a great way to get more hits on a keyword search, it can also wreak havoc that is not wanted as well. There are three different types of matching that offer different returns. The first is an exact match which is exactly what it states. The keyword phrase that is used is matched exactly with no deviation from the keyword phrase. For instance, if the keyword phrase is "pink elephant", then the only searches that come back are going to have to be exactly those two words.bwXFree Articles Directory | Hostsee.com

A phrase search is going to include other words in the phrase. Using our earlier example of "pink elephant", there are going to be searches returned whether or not there is a longer phrase. It simply needs to contain those two words in the exact order as they appear in the keyword phrase. So, "I want to find a pink elephant online" would come back under that keyword phrase search but "elephants that are pink" would not. So this is a good way to search common keywords phrases that would not normally be switched in order but it is not broad enough for those that can have many different word placements within the customers' search.bwXFree Articles Directory | Hostsee.com

Then we come to the dreaded broad matching. This was once a good way to get a keyword phrase that would bring back hits that were associated but not exact. But Google has changed this option and they actually analyze the website to find any other phrases that can be used. Those who are affiliated to major products can find that they are going to be in competition with those affiliates unknowingly and this can cause issues and can even lose website owners their affiliates. This is how many websites make money so losing affiliates is not going to be a good thing. Until Google offers a choice in the broad matches, it is best to simply stick to either exact or phrase matching.bwXFree Articles Directory | Hostsee.com
