The first and best way to monetize your membership site is to use affiliates, hands down. Here's why this is so powerful:

You drive traffic to your site and get members into your program, which is awesome since it's still new customers and money into your business. But, if you have an affiliate program in your membership, all of a sudden you now have an affiliate army as well.

Each member of your site can also promote that site and get commissions every time someone joins from the traffic they sent. This is hugely profitable. Now, it doesn't mean that every single one of your members will be actively promoting your site, but once you get a decent member base, if the commission is attractive enough, some WILL promote it.

The other top way to monetize your membership site is to use upsells and/or recommendations to your users. Let's say your monthly content is an interview from an expert on a given topic. All you'd have to do is find an expert in that niche that has an info product (start with ClickBank if you want), and after you interview him, link to his product on that same page. Recommend his product to your members, so after the interview, if they're interested, they can click through your affiliate link and check out that product.

Using this model, you don't even need to know a single thing about your niche, just do the basic research to see what problems people are having and use those as the questions for the interview. Simple!
