Unfortunately, most of new marketers seem to think that their main battle has to do with learning to understand HTML, creating the pages and loading the pages on your hosts server. Now, with our site ready for the world to see, they wonder why they have no visitors.

After putting up your web pages in cyber space, you can't expect people to know of your presence without some promotion on your part. This is like opening a "brick and mortar" business with no signs, no advertising an no indication of what your business is. At best it's a pretty shallow plan. Creating all the pages for your web site is not the end. Far from it! In fact, it is only the beginning. Just like graduating from college is not the end of your education but the beginning of your voyage outside the classroom.

Face it - NOBODY KNOWS YOU YET!

Trust me, your not ready to throw that big launch party just yet. That comes when you make your first sale! I certainly did. If you are just starting out, don't make the same mistake most of the people, myself included, did. You need to work at making your site "visible". Operating an Internet Business, like any other business, requires communication. You need to interact. You need to let people know you are around and open for business. I am sure you get the point by now. If you haven't been making much progress in your early stages of your Internet Business this, most likely, will be the reason.

To get yourself started quickly and let people know you are in business, the following tasks can be done easily and with no cash outlay. While you do not necessarily need money to make money on the Internet, your time will be the currency that determines the life or death of your business. With that said, here are the 4 steps needed to make the world aware of your site:

1. Submit your site to all the major search engines (Yahoo!, Google, MSN, AltaVista, etc.).

This should always be the first thing to do as soon as you have your web site up. However, this is less of a chore if your site was built "SEO Friendly".

2. Submit your link to web sites with high Page Rank.

Having your link submitted to directories, forums or related sites with high PR(page rank) value will also result in increasing your site PR when Google bots crawl your web pages.

3. Participate in discussion boards.

Join one or two discussion boards where your prospects gather. You want to interact, submit articles and leave your website URL and "teaser" in your resource box for people interested in what you have to offer. Don't try to sell in your posts. Not only do you run the risk of being banned form the forum, other readers will ignore your posts. If you submit great posts with good information people will click on your link.

4. Submit your articles to other websites.

There are many sites online that specialize in listing articles. You need to include a link to your website in your authors resource box. Publishing your articles on these sites is a great way to establish some links back to your website. Furthermore, other sites and e-zine publishers may even want to publish your article in their publication!

Using these 4 easy steps to start, you can promote your website without spending a cent. You will need to contribute your sweat equity, no doubt, but the results sure beat not doing anything.
