Automating Twitter Marketing Efforts - The Golden Rule

While there are a ton of things that I'm currently working on, (Some truly exciting projects that are coming shortly), one of the projects of focus is effectively automating marketing efforts on Twitter.

Nothing groundbreaking, I know, but the current methodologies and tools that are available just don't provide all that is needed to carry out successful campaigns, at least not in one place.

I have recently spawned a couple of Twitter accounts for testing purposes and have stumbled upon some eye opening truths. Some of which should really be common sense.

The fact of the matter is that these are often overlooked because they are stupidly simple. I for one take every opportunity to over complicate everything I get involved in and get caught up in looking at the big picture without ever taking the necessary time to check out the details.

So, what's the number one truth that we all overlook?

The Quality of your following.

Months ago when I started my main Twitter account I spent some time, manually, seeking out the gurus and following them. One of the direct results was that I began to get followers fairly quickly.

However, the indirect result became obvious just as quickly. The market I was focused on was geared toward the same outcome as I.

To sell an affiliate product.

Within a month or so I had 400 followers and followees sending direct messages and automated retweets with the sole intent of promoting an affiliate product. Not accomplishing a whole lot if you get the drift.

Now before anyone gets upset let me be clear, I am all for marketing, even aggressive marketing.

The point is, as someone put it so well, if you intend to sell golf balls, you want GOLFERS as followers, not other golf ball sellers. In an effort to get followers my focus was on the wrong type of crowd.

I needed buyers not sellers. Truth is I wanted to sell things not buy them. As I am sure is the case with most everyone who finds themselves reading this.

There are some niches that are really difficult to weed out the buyers because sometimes the buyers are also sellers. I have an account that proves it (more on that at a later date). The key is to not get too over zealous in building your following.

Just as keywords are vitally important for Internet Marketing and SEO, so too are they for Twitter Marketing. When using automated scripts or services it becomes that much more imperative to do some common sense planning and research before building the wrong following.

And by wrong I mean Not Profitable.

Automating your Twitter Marketing efforts can yield huge gains in followers. Take the time to analyze your market and focus on BUYERS.
