How to Market Online With Social Media

Exposure, exposure, exposure! The internet is a great place to hide, you could hide there for decades, grow old, die and decompose and not a soul would know. For internet marketers being hidden is death. The internet is, though, the greatest meeting place on earth and social media is specifically designed for us to connect with one another. Twitter, Facebook, YouTube, MySpace etc there are now a myriad of agencies willing to help us meet. It's a place and opportunity the internet marketer cannot ignore.

But once there with your account - what do you do? This article is too short a space to go into specifics but here are a few pointers and, if you will, a philosophy to follow: people buy people - be a person not a robot. There is software that will automate your marketing in these areas that follow the philosophy that if you throw enough mud some of it might stick but it is inefficient and is diametrically opposed to the whole idea behind social media. Social media is there for us to connect positively. An internet marketer will prosper by helping and connecting with the people who are interested in his or her niche.

Step one: create your profile, make yourself a brand. Make sure you use a photo that puts you in a good light not hung over at two in the morning. Give a little about yourself. What are you about apart from being a marketer? Show the world you are a real human being.

So step two is to target. Use the search functions available to find the people who are interested in one you have to offer.

Step three: offer value. Answer people's questions, help with their problems. Be a human being. What an internet marketer needs is to build trust and a relationship.

Step four: ensure your links are placed as much as possible. This is why you're here - exposure. You need to make sure you are giving your readers the opportunity to link to your capture pages, your blog or wherever you'd like to guide people to. Now if this is all you do - one or two things will happen a) people will feel pushed and that you are just spamming b) your social media agent may pull the plug on your account. This is a give and take situation. You should be giving more that you are taking, after all, the social media agents are giving you a free place to connect with potential customers.

Step five: connect wherever possible. Get out there, talk to people, find out what they want, what they are about. A successful marketer connects people with what they want. If you have what they want and put it in front of them in a manner that promotes trust and confidence then business will ensue.
