Try hosing a giveaway or contest. People love to have an opportunity to win things. You can give away merchandise from your store, offer discounts on services, or even give away one introductory package for free. The idea is to generate interest in your business. If you tweet about a contest then ask your followers to retweet it that increases your exposure. People who have never heard of your business before will enter a contest to win something, and possibly become customers.

Ask a question. Twitter is meant to be interactive, so use it interact with your followers. Ask if there are services or products they would like to see that you don't currently offer. Ask trivia questions related to your niche area and offer a small prize for the first person with the correct answer. You can even ask your followers how their day is going or if they have ever had an experience similar to something that happened to you. These opportunities for interaction help your followers to feel as though they know you on a personal level instead of just being your customers.

Link to a product or review. If someone reviews a product or service that you offer, tweet a link. Use http://www.tinyurl.com to turn a long link into something that will fit into a tweet. If you find an article that is relevant to your business or to the interests of your customers, tweet a link to that as well. Tweeting links and relevant information will help your followers to stay engaged with your tweets as well as with your business.

Use Twitter to find qualified employees. This can be a bit trickier but it can be done. Say you need a specific task completed. Try tweeting about the task and see who responds. If one of your followers offers to complete the task for a price that you like, then you can connect via e-mail to discuss it and finalize the details. This can be an easy way to outsource small tasks.

Connect with customers and people you meet. Obviously the whole point of Twitter is to connect with people. You can use it to connect with customers, but that isn't all. You can also use Twitter to connect with people you meet at niche gatherings. You can even use it to follow your competitor's tweets.
