Internet Marketing Tools - Podcasts Are a Fun Way to Generate Traffic

A lot of people get nervous when I mention that podcasting is a great way to generate traffic...they don't know what they'll talk about...they think that they have to be the expert on a bunch of different topics. They are afraid they are going to sound really stupid...sound familiar? Well, let me reassure you, it is easy to get ideas for podcasts AND you don't have to be the expert...you can still use podcasting as one of your internet marketing tools-and you can relax and have fun while you do!

Getting Ideas for Topics

Just like your other internet marketing tools, you want to know what people are interested in, right? So, you can get ideas in lots of different ways.

You could of course do a survey...a basic ASK campaign or SurveyMonkey or whatever. You can ask in your podcast, like maybe at the end of one you ask people to tell you what they'd like to hear about next.

You will have lots and lots of ideas that you can create your next podcasts on...and people love it when they know they are being heard...that their ideas or questions are being addressed.

You Don't Have to Know it All

You have asked your listeners to tell you what they want to hear about in your niche...what if they come up with ideas that you aren't expert in? That's okay...you can follow the Napoleon Hill strategy of interviewing someone who is an expert.

Nobody expects you to know everything...they will expect that if you are interviewing someone you have checked them out and THEY do know what they are talking about.

This is actually a really cool method of doing a podcast because you get to put yourself in your listeners' shoes and ask the questions that they want to know. That makes for great interaction. Having two people on the call can be really great, it can give a lot of energy to a call which makes it more interesting for the listeners.

So you don't have to be the expert...you just find someone who is and you talk to them.

Go Global

And don't think that you have to find someone locally either. One of the cool things about internet marketing and podcasting is that we deal with people all around the world.

So whether it is for a one-time special interview or a series of podcasts you can literally have your podcast partner be across the country or half-way around the world!

You don't need to be right beside the person...you can record your podcast on Skype and the quality is fantastic...they'll sound like they are right next to you.

Be Yourself

You don't have to be a professional radio announcer to do a podcast...you are better off just relaxing about it and having a conversation. Some of the most popular podcasts are just that-two people casually talking about a topic.

It might be two people talking about the latest tech gizmo or it might be two moms talking about the challenges they are facing raising their kids.

Go ahead and do a couple of podcasts...get the hang of it and have some fun. Just relax and be yourself...talk to someone else if you aren't an expert on the topic...and let your listeners direct you on future topics. This is really one of the coolest, most fun internet marketing tools because it really can just be a lot of fun!
