Why People Love Listening to Podcasts

We love our technology these days: iPods, iPads, iPhones, smart phones, netbooks, laptops. There are tons of ways to connect and learn. But it's not just the technology we love. It's that we now have the ability to communicate in ways that were just sci-fi dreams only a few dozen years ago.

If you're still on the fence about podcasting consider these benefits and reasons why people really love podcasts:

1. Podcasts are portable: We are on the move these days and it's nice to have podcasts available to listen to in the car, while we take a walk, on our phones, etc. I know I enjoy plugging in my iPod on a long drive and catching up on some of my favorite podcasts.

2. Podcasts are learning opportunities: I feel like I have much more time to LISTEN then I do to sit and read. So while I would love to grow and learn more about certain topics, if they're not in audio version I might never get around to it.

3. Podcasts build trust: From a listener point of view I want a few key people that I trust when I'm looking to make a purchase. They kind of become like my 'advisors' because I've invested a lot of time getting to know, like and trust them through their podcast.

4. Podcasts are automatic: When I run across a great website I bookmark it in case I ever want to go back but it's likely I'll never remember it again. Even though blogs are easy to subscribe to I'm subscribed to so many (hundreds) I don't read most of them. Now with podcasting I'm only subscribed to a select few and they come in to my itunes account automatically. That's really nice, easy and convenient.

There are many reasons to listen to podcasts and start podcasting yourself. I'm sure you'll come up with many of your own as you get into it.

If you do decide to get into podcasting make sure you think of your listener and not just your own needs. When you know just who you are speaking to, why they are listening and what they are looking for you will have a much greater chance success with your podcast.

Of course you can also do video podcasts, which people also have their own reasons for watching. Which method you choose will depend on your own message, market and comfort level!
