Times have changed from just over twenty years ago. As far back as 1990, there was hardly such a thing as websites. Businesses took off due to advertisement on newspapers and television. But when the internet finally got mainstream, many businesses and corporations started turning their attention online.

Now, in order for your business to take off, you'd almost need to have some form of online presence. Even people who do not have a business have a blog or a website or are signed up in social marketing sites like MySpace and Facebook. A lot of businesses use these sites to promote. A new tool is Twitter, where everyone makes small posts or tweets.

But you may want something a little more serious, like your own website for your own business. There are many web hosting services that have a diversity of features. Features include but are not limited to, CPanel Control Panel, subdomains, parked domains, front page extensions. You'd have your own domain plus you can host additional domains. You'd also get email options like email forwarder and auto responder

Some web hosts will offer bonus features like your own blog. Some even give you Wordpress. You can also have e-commerce features like shopping carts, firewall, and Security monitoring. You could also get unlimited disk space and support for streaming of audio and video and built in Macromedia and flash. You could also run an image gallery.

Of course you don't necessarily need all of these features for your website. Some businesses don't need unlimited disk space and streaming and all the bells and whistles of a full blown web host. For example, if you're just running a website to get people to visit your building, you may not need a video for your business, but it will actually help your business. If all you intend to do is write about something, you may not even need a website, you can just blog.

Web hosts are a good thing to have for businesses and they are practically good for anything. The best thing to do is figure out what your intention is for your website and find a web host best suited to your intentions.
